We came across this condo listing in Paulus Hook and had to share. From the street you wouldn’t expect anything more than the typical floor through townhouse 1 bedroom. But a peek inside the front door reveals its impeccably detailed design focused renovation.
A neutral color palatte on the floors and walls sets the stage for a clean modern design. The owners then added in pops of color in rather surprising places to bring in a liveliness that’s absent from monotone modern.
Take the kitchen for example, a seemingly standard walnut base cabinet is contrasted with blue wall cabinets. But why stop there? They take it a step further, by adding in a bright orange base and wall cabinet that gives it a striping effect. Not only does this break up the repetitive nature of kitchens cabinets themselves, but also adds a playful touch.
The black marble perplexed me, at first. In a space that would go so perfectly with a carrera or calacatta why do anything else? For the same reason as the orange stripe – it’s unexpected and bold.
They lost me a little with the bathroom. Sticking strictly to the monotone model is seems at odds with the rest of the space. But maybe thats the point, a bathroom of this caliber is a retreat and in this case even a retreat from the rest of the home.
At 831 sf it’s not a huge unit, but who needs much space when you’re in a location like Paulus Hook. The bedroom is a good size and the rest of the space is open so it doesn’t feel cramped. Add in the incredible back yard and I doubt a couple or young family would be itching for more space.
Priced at $665k it seems in line with the market. I suspect it will sell for close to that and the new owners will be delighted with their purchase.
