A Jersey City neighborhood that should look very different in a few years will soon be home to another café that’s being built out along Newark Avenue’s western stretch.
Almost directly across from the Hudson County Courthouse, a new eatery called Café Peanut is under construction at 586 Newark Avenue. Little is known about the business, as they don’t appear to have any online presence. But signage is up at the property and construction paper has been up at the storefront since the beginning of the year.
The new dining option along one of Jersey City’s main retail corridors falls within a stretch where a lot of change is in the pipeline. Late last year, several buildings were demolished down the street to make way for a new courthouse project, which will build a second facility to replace the aging Hudson County Administration building.
Hudson County will then sell the current Administration Building at 595 Newark Avenue to a developer once it’s no longer needed, but that’s not all they’re changing in the neighborhood. They also have a project underway to eliminate Cook Street and realign several local roads to allow Central Avenue to connect with Newark Avenue.
Café Peanut is under construction at the same building as the Chinese-themed Ling Long Xuan restaurant, which looks pretty close to opening. Newark Avenue’s nearby dining options have been recently overhauled quite a bit; within a few blocks of Café Peanut, MezCal Kitchen, Sa-go-to Bubble Tea, and Banana King have all opened within the last year.
