This post is sponsored by: The Baker Building – a premier rental building in the Bergen-Lafayette neighborhood of Jersey City. It opens for leasing on Saturday, April 2nd 2016.
When the Baker Building broke ground less than a year ago, Mayor Fulop praised the new project as a major indicator of his commitment to bringing development to areas outside of the waterfront. It was the largest project to break ground in Ward F in many years. Well, now it’s time to celebrate the opening of the new building, as it readies for it’s grand opening on Saturday, April 2nd.
The new 83-unit rental building, at 234 Suydam Ave, is conveniently located between the Liberty State Park Light Rail Station and the Pacific Avenue retail corridor. Its name pays homage to the Baker Coating Factory that operated at the site from 1880 until it closed in 2001. The new building was designed by C+C Architecture.
Developed by Point Capital Development and constructed by Fields Construction, the new building can hold its own against most new downtown buildings both in amenities and quality. Its common areas were designed by Anthony Carrino and the model units were staged by Craig Wroe Interiors. Kitchens have been outfitted with modern high-gloss white cabinets, gray quartz countertops and stainless steel appliances. The’ve also integrated technologies to make your life easier like keyless door fobs and a video intercom system controlled via your smartphone called ButterflyMX.
The amenities are right up there with what you’d expect in a downtown luxury building. Perks include a dog spa and irrigated dog run, a patio featuring a gas fire-pit and grills, gym, and bike storage. An additional amenity space on the roof offers a lounge and a roof-deck with an outdoor shower, seating areas and phenomenal 360-degree views of Jersey City and Manhattan. But wait, the best part of the amenities is the fact there’s no amenity fee (take advantage while this deal lasts)!
Covered parking is available in the building as well for an additional fee.
Nothing is official yet, but there’s been talk of the Grind Coffee Shop opening up a satellite location in the building to offer residents quick access to coffee and bites on their way to work. Speaking of work, commuting into the city is a breeze – a less than 5 minute walk gets you to the light rail. Hop on and you’re downtown in one stop or continue on to grab the PATH at either Exchange Place or Newport stations.

The building features a mix of one-, two- and three-bedrooms units, with prices averaging $1,750 for a one-bedroom, $1,950 for a two-bedroom, and $2,500 for a three-bedroom. At these prices and with these amenities it’s hard not to be enticed. You should act quickly though, following a preview 2 weeks ago 25% of the units have been reserved.
