When driving or walking southbound along part of Paterson Plank Road in North Bergen, the two towers of Journal Squared in Jersey City can be seen rising in the distance.
However, one does not have to look far from Paterson Plank Road to see new development, with projects like Hudson Mews and a Wyndham Garden hotel having been recently completed in the area.
Now, a large mixed-use development is in the works for the block.
A proposal by Juan Flores calls for constructing a 10-story building at the site of the Gulf gas station and Auto Repairs by Juan at 1520 Paterson Plank Road near Food Bazaar.
Site plans from Colliers Engineering & Design and AM Architect’s Studio that were released by the Township of North Bergen show that the proposed development would consist of 65 residential units, a 1,901-square-foot restaurant, a 752-square-foot coffee bar, a fitness area, and 119 parking spaces.
The building would also include a “recreational roof” with a rooftop bar and pool.
In order to move forward with the project, the developer is looking to be granted preliminary and final major site plan approval with several variances, according to a notice of hearing.
This matter is scheduled to go before the North Bergen Zoning Board of Adjustment on Tuesday, June 29. The meeting is expected to begin over Zoom at 6:00 p.m.
