The largest city in Union County might see a new multi-family development constructed within its limits.
A company named The Grand at Morris Urban Renewal LLC has plans for a four-story project at 538-550 Morris Avenue and 539-553 Cherry Street in Elizabeth.
An application for preliminary and final site plan approval that was submitted to the City of Elizabeth says that the complex would include 61 residential units, most of which would be two-bedroom units. The document also notes that 120 parking spaces are required, but that 95 spots are being proposed.
Site plans from James R. Guerra, PA that were published by Elizabeth’s municipal government illustrate that there would be a fitness center, dog run, and terrace as part of the development.
The site, which used to contain a Santander Bank branch, is located across from the Tropicana Diner between Midtown Elizabeth and Kean University’s Union Township campus. Elizabeth’s main train station is less than a mile from the premises.
This proposal is scheduled to go before the Elizabeth Zoning Board of Adjustment during a virtual meeting on Thursday, August 12, at 7:30 p.m., according to a public notice.
Note to readers: The dates that applications are scheduled to be heard by the Elizabeth Zoning Board of Adjustment and other commissions are subject to change.
