The evolving Bergen-Lafayette neighborhood has welcomed a new restaurant straight from the Bayou as Po Boy Riche has added a new entry to Jersey City’s diverse dining scene.

Situated at 89 Monitor Street on the ground floor of The Hazel, the newest restaurant is the brainchild of Israel Jiles. His experience includes serving as a former partner at Montclair Hospitality Group, which owns the Ani Ramen brand, PastaRAMEN, and other ventures.

Jiles also previously served as the manager of the trendy Catch NYC restaurant, and his casual yet cozy space in Bergen-Lafayette has won some early raves since its soft opening. The restaurant is a counter-service affair with several seating areas, and its specialty is (perhaps unsurprisingly) the New Orleans favorite, po’ boys.

Shrimp, catfish, oyster, roast beef, chicken, and mushroom varieties of the Bayou specialty are all accounted for at Po Boy Riche, as is a muffaletta option. Other menu items include catfish nuggets and a Creole salad with baby lettuce, herbs, mushrooms, and a mustard vinaigrette.

Other entrees at the restaurant besides po’ boys include shrimp and grits and jambalaya. No experience attempting to bring New Orleans to Jersey City would be complete without beignets, which round out the restaurant’s dessert options.

Po Boy Riche is now open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for lunch, with a dinner service from 5:00 p.m. through 9:00 p.m. The restaurant can be followed on Instagram at the handle @poboyriche.
