A Rutgers-born tradition will be heading north to Jersey City in the coming months as Mr. Subs is set to launch their eighth outpost in the heart of Downtown.

The fast-casual deli is slated to set up shop at 389 Monmouth Street, which had been home to Diesel & Duke burger joint that recently shuttered after an eight-year run. The upcoming tenants already run existing restaurants in East Brunswick, Bound Brook, Cranbury, North Brunswick, Rahway, and South Plainfield.

Mr. Subs started in a Rutgers University dorm room among three longtime friends and has grown into a local sub shop with a cult following. The deli’s bread comes fresh from their very own bakery, and the brand strives to purchase their produce from local farmers’ markets when in season.

Highlights of the menu include their Mr. Sub, which features pressed ham, pepperoni, salami, and cheese. Their White Turkey concoction combines oven, honey, and peppered turkey varieties, while their Kitchen Sink sandwich sports turkey, ham, roast beef, and provolone.

Hot sandwich options at Mr. Subs include a ribeye cheesesteak and an Impossible meat version of the dish. The Rutgers connection is strong at the restaurant, as their Fat Mr. Sub selection mashes cheesesteak, mozzarella sticks, fries, lettuce, tomato, ketchup & mayo together on a seeded roll.

The menu at Mr. Subs is rounded out by sides such as shoestring fries, homemade mac salad, and mozzarella sticks.

Mr. Subs has not yet announced when their first Hudson County location will open, but those interested in learning more can follow the company on Instagram at the handle @mrsubs.
