The overhaul of the Journal Square Transportation Center continues as a new sports bar is slated to take over space near new high-rises that has been vacant for over a year.

Signage went up earlier this summer for the somewhat mysterious JJ Sports Bar at 4 Path Plaza. The restaurant aimed to take over the former Emma’s space, a comfort food restaurant that closed last year after a four-year run.

The move has become a bit more official in recent days, as Jersey City’s Alcoholic Beverage Control heard an application to officially transfer the liquor license during their August 19 meeting. The license is slated to be moved to an entity called JJ Sora LLC, which is based out of an address in Northvale, New Jersey.

The sole ownership of that company belongs to Jay Sorathiya, who also runs BCSJ Construction. The eatery does not appear to have any social media presence yet but promises beer, games, and food on their temporary signage that is already up at the property.

It’s unclear when exactly JJ Sports Bar could launch, but the moves by the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board are a promising sign. The space has had a bit of a tough run, seeing P.J. Ryan’s come and go before Emma’s shut down.

However, the Journal Square neighborhood is adding new residents left and right via a construction boom not seen in generations. JJ Sports Bar will be the second new restaurant slated for the PATH Plaza, as a Teriyaki One Japanese Grill outpost will be opening just steps away.
