A business formed over four years ago has finally launched its first permanent home in Downtown Jersey City as Feliz Deliz is serving their locally famous carrot cake and more.
The company, a play on the Spanish word for happy (feliz) mixed with deliciousness (where the deliz comes in), now has a storefront at 336 Second Street. Diana Valenzuela and Victor Johnson launched the brand in 2022, offering a variety of cakes along with sweet and savory pastries.
Valenzuela has worked in the dessert world since 2011, mainly in Manhattan restaurants like Riverpark, Del Posto, élan, and others. She also worked at Jersey City Heights hotspot Bread & Salt in 2020, helping to expand and diversify their pastry menu to what it is today.
Feliz Deliz’s brick-and-mortar shop serves drinks from Capacity Coffee, including cold brew, espresso drinks, and homemade chai, among other selections. But the bakery’s main highlight is the treats: pistachio brownies, cardamom buns, everything pretzels, espresso chocolate cookies, and more await patrons.
Their cakes are still a highlight, with significant expansion beyond their carrot cake. Funfetti and raspberry, berries and cream, tiramisu, and more varieties are available made to order, with customizable options like edible flowers.
Feliz Deliz also features soft serve ice cream with rotating flavors and also sells seasonal jams and other goodies. They are closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but otherwise open for business Thursday through Monday, 7 am-1 pm and 4 pm-9 pm.
