A pop-up coffee and tea cart that has become a staple of Jersey City farmer’s markets will soon be launching its first storefront as Jane’s Matcha is headed to a newly renovated space in The Heights.

The business, founded by Jersey City Heights resident Jane Yang, will be opening the brand’s first-ever brick-and-mortar location at 93 Franklin Street later this summer. Jane’s Matcha started as a farmer’s market pop-up in May 2024, and their Franklin Street space will be intentionally built around slow mornings and premium Japanese teas.

Unlike a typical café, Jane’s Matcha looks to be a tearoom intentionally. Every matcha is hand-whisked to order using traditional tools and ceremonial-grade matcha sourced directly from Japan, and guests can order teapot sets that are individual or shareable pots.

“Everything we do is made by hand on purpose – the matcha, the syrups, the ceramics on the walls,” says Yang. “Every cup is more than matcha; it’s a shared memory. That intention is the whole point. It’s what makes a cup of tea feel like something worth slowing down for.”

The menu at Jane’s Matcha is anchored by their trademark Honeycomb Latte. The food program, developed in collaboration with Jersey City resident Chef Joe Piccirillo, includes from-scratch baked goods and a savory menu of onigiris and shokupan sandos.

“I always knew if I was going to do this, it would start right here,” said Yang of her Franklin Street space. “The Heights showed up for us on a cold, rainy Sunday before we’d even found our footing, and we’ve been trying to give that back ever since. We’ve been so grateful to grow with this neighborhood, and we can’t wait to give it a place to slow down.”

Jane’s Matcha will also feature ceramics as an integral part of the brand experience when up and running. A grand opening date and business hours will be announced in the coming weeks, and those interested in keeping tabs on the launch can follow the company on Instagram at the handle @janesmatcha.
