Jersey City has no shortage of diverse culinary options and another unique eatery that blends several cultures called Bettie’s Restaurant has opened in the city’s West Side neighborhood.
Launched earlier this week at 579 West Side Avenue, Bettie’s Restaurant takes over space formerly occupied by Eats Pizza. The business comes courtesy Chef Benel Francois and sports a menu filled with Haitian, Caribbean, and Latin cuisine with an Italian flair.
The restaurant is named after Chef Benel’s mother Bettie, who taught him how to cook starting at the age of nine. She operated a successful catering company in the Dominican Republic for many years where Francois started as a line cook and made his way to head chef under his mother’s leadership.
Highlights at Bettie’s restaurant include a Macaroni Gratinée Pizza, which features a thin Italian crust with Haitian-style macaroni gratinée. Other items teased through their social media include Pate Kode and a whole fried red snapper.
Bettie’s Restaurant has begun taking reservations through Resy and allows diners to BYOB. Their soft opening hours run from Tuesday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., with Friday and Saturday dinner service until midnight.
