Ibby’s Falafel, a downtown Jersey City restaurant that has been serving the community for almost three decades, has put out a feeler aiming to find someone to take over the business.
Ibby’s Falafel at 303 Grove Street has been listed for sale or rent through Exit Realty. The brochure for the 550-square foot retail condominium says the asking price is available upon request but makes it clear the owners are flexible.
“Buy the business, buy the commercial condo or lease the lucky spot,” the listing reads. “Everything is negotiable!”
Owner Adnan Kwara established his first restaurant in Downtown Jersey City back in 1996 when falafel was somewhat hard to come by. The shop is still open for business despite the listing, which advertises a clean hood and Ansel system at the property.
The storefront itself sits on a prominent corner with Grove Street’s intersection with Wayne Street and the space includes a permanent outdoor seating area within a plaza that was created during the COVID-19 pandemic.
While the listing oddly describes the storefront as being “near busy Journal Square,” it sits within the heart of Downtown just a few blocks from the Grove Street PATH station. The space is not far from the newly renovated Newark Avenue Pedestrian Plaza and the brochure notes that of the almost 59,000 residents that live within one mile of Ibby’s storefront, the average income runs $151,806/year.
