A beloved supermarket that served the Jersey City community for decades will be replaced with a “fast fine” takeout spot called Wonder later this year.
Per a post from the Historic Downtown Special Improvement District, Wonder is officially coming to 352 Grove Street. The storefront was formerly occupied by La Conga, which closed down early last year.
Known in recent years for their old school orange sign, the market served the Jersey City community during an era when supermarkets could be surprisingly hard to find in the area. Their Spanish flair notably set them apart from other grocers.

That past is yielding to Wonder, which opened in Hoboken about 18 months ago. Their Jersey City outpost will be their second location in Hudson County when it is up and running.
Wonder initially launched in New York City amid the COVID-19 pandemic and partners with world-renowned chefs. The restaurant, which operates as a ghost kitchen for takeout and delivery orders, provides “one-stop shopping” of sorts for customers with menus from a slew of different chefs that are available under one roof and can be both delivered and ordered together.
Some of the bigger names that are available at Wonder’s locations include offerings from Bobby Flay Steak, Chios Taverna, and Mainstay by Marc Murphy.
Wonder has been expanding rapidly through New Jersey in just two years since opening in Westfield, launching locations in Springfield, Midland Park, and Cresskill. Further locations are slated to open in Parsippany, Middletown, and Cherry Hill over the coming months.
The Jersey City outpost does not have a concrete opening date just yet, but the brand can be followed on Instagram at the handle @wonder for further updates.
