A Honduran eatery that took Jersey City by storm has officially re-launched as the acclaimed Perquín has come back to the Paulus Hook neighborhood with expanded dining options.
Perquín debuted last year at 85 Morris Street from the group behind Santelli’s Hospitality. The restaurant was led by owner Bryan Girón, whose impressive resume includes stints at New York City restaurants like Barbuto and Shukette plus a stop at Jersey City’s acclaimed Bread & Salt.
The chef initially launched the concept during COVID-19 as a private dinner. Perquín, which translates to “road to the embers” in the language of the Indigenous people of the Lenca tribe in Honduras, was a multi-course dinner designed to showcase “the complexity, richness, techniques, and products that Honduras and the rest of Latin America have to offer.”
The brick-and-mortar version of Perquín was a big hit but closed in late August, as a redevelopment project has long been in the works at their former home. But the restaurant didn’t go too far for their second coming, as they secured space directly across the street.
Perquín 2.0 launched on October 14 at 84.5 Morris Street inside a storefront formerly home to Speedy’s JC. The restaurant announced the move over the weekend via their Instagram page and shared fresh details about new offerings in the works.
Perquín’s revamp includes expanding the experience to include daily breakfast, offering a spread of new dishes, fresh coffee, and pastries. In terms of dinner service, all the Baleadas, Chucos, Ceviche, Potaje, and Taco Arabes that made Perquín a quick favorite are all accounted for at the new space.
The restaurant will still be closed on Sundays and Mondays but is otherwise open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, closing an hour later on Friday nights. Saturday hours at Perquín will run from 11 a.m. through 9 p.m.
