Workers and residents who frequent the Newport neighborhood officially have a new dining option, as a superfood and acai bowl brand that was born in the Garden State has opened at a storefront near the Hudson River waterfront.

We first broke the news back in May that Frutta Bowls was coming to space at 100 Town Square Place directly next to the area’s PATH station. The franchise, which was founded by Freehold’s own Brooke Gagliano and has 50 stores across 14 states, held their grand opening event on October 5.

Their cozy Jersey City space features counter seating that faces a large window, plus two circular tables tucked into a corner. The café serves a wide variety of smoothies including healthy options like a Green Machine that contains avocado, kale, coconut milk, pineapple, mango, and honey, but has drinks like a Chocolate Explosion made up of chocolate whey protein, banana, Nutella, peanut butter, and almond milk for those seeking something sweeter.

The food menu consists of acai, pitaya, kale, and hot oatmeal bowls including their signature Frutta Bowl, which is made up of organic açaí, banana, granola, strawberry, pineapple, kiwi, Nutella, peanut butter, honey, and coconut flakes. The café also serves various toast combinations including a savory avocado with goat cheese, red pepper flakes, sea salt, and sriracha.

The casual restaurant is soy and dairy-free friendly and includes gluten-free bread as an option on their toast menu.

Frutta Bowls is now open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends.
