For decades optimistic prognosticators have predicted Journal Square’s renaissance. Largely, it remained just that, a prediction, with little "on the ground" to back it up. That’s all about to change.

The Heights neighborhood of Jersey City was a German enclave from the middle of the 19th century until World War I. Prosperous citizens, often of German descent, built the biggest and best houses on Summit Avenue and Sherman Place. Today, in the ongoing preservation conversation, we feature four of these well-preserved homes.

A new five-story building will be coming to 429-437 Bergen Avenue. The development will consist of 72 residential units on the top four floors and 2,150 square feet of commercial space on the ground floor.

The giant granite stairs leading up to the Brennan Courthouse are currently in disarray for a good reason, as repairs are being made to the century-old foundation in an effort to restore one of the county’s landmark buildings.

In 1997, the last light rail station in Jersey City was finished on West Side Avenue. Since then, the city has added more than 30,000 residents and development has expanded further west. To help accommodate this growth, the county has commissioned a study to better understand the costs of expanding the light rail to Route 440.

TEDx, the localized spinoff of the popular TED talks, will be returning to Jersey City this December for its fourth year.

Food & Drink news for Jersey City, a new taco joint is coming to downtown, a sneak peak of Atlas Public House which plans to open tomorrow, and Ozu Foods in the Heights begins serving lunch.

This fully-restored 19th Century brownstone in Paulus Hook features three expansive, full-floor apartments with modern finishes and conveniences. Units #1 and #3 have already rented. Now, only #2 remains, asking $5,500/month.

Urban Edge Properties announced yesterday that it has entered into a $43.7 million contract to purchase Hudson Mall in Jersey City. The property, located on Route 440, spans 383,000 square feet and contains anchor tenants Marshalls, Toys "R" Us, Staples, and Old Navy.
