Sources have confirmed that Ruth’s Chris Steak House will be taking up residence in the ground floor retail at 499 Washington Boulevard, an office building in the heart of Jersey City’s Newport neighborhood.
The space, in a highly visible location, has been vacant since Azucar, a Cuban restaurant, closed almost two years ago. 499 Washington is home to several big-name companies like Fidelity Investment, Forbes, and Tory Burch. Plans for new signage outside the future Ruth’s Chris restaurant are scheduled to be heard by the Planning Board at their June 27th meeting.
The upscale brand, which first started as a single restaurant in New Orleans way back in 1927, was sold to Ruth Fertel in 1965 and has expanded to over 130 locations worldwide since. Ruth’s Chris signature dish is USDA prime steaks that are seared at 1800° Fahrenheit. Family-style side dishes, cocktails and an award-winning wine list of over 200 varieties round out the experience.
The Jersey City spot will be the steakhouse’s second Hudson County location, the other being housed in Weehawken’s Lincoln Harbor complex. Certain Ruth’s Chris locations have started offering lunch and happy hour options in recent years, although it’s not known if their Newport restaurant will be participating when they open their doors.
