Residents of The Heights officially have a new taco spot from the ownership behind another Jersey City restaurant that boasts late night hours and a cozy outdoor space made for the summer months.
Earlier this month, La Milpa Taqueria launched at 45 Franklin Street. Jersey Digs was first to break the news about the restaurant last May, which comes courtesy chef Jaime Ramirez.
Ramirez is the owner of nearby neighborhood favorite The Franklin, a BYOB brunch spot that opened in 2019 that sports an Italian dinner menu. La Milpa Taqueria is a decidedly different direction for the chef, who has embraced Mexican flavors in his latest endeavor.
Tacos are obviously the name of the game at La Milpa, which translates to “the corn field.” The taqueria boasts tons of varieties that include al pastor, chorizo, birria, carnitas, pescado, and tinga, which blends shredded chicken with a tomato and chipotle sauce.
Flautas, quesadillas, and tortas also adorn the menu at La Milpa alongside chips and guac, consome, and other treats. The restaurant sports a sizeable outdoor rear deck and continues the BYOB tradition of chef Ramirez’s Jersey City restaurants.
Even better for the neighborhood are the hours of La Milpa Taqueria, which span daily from 11 a.m. until midnight. The restaurant can be followed on Instagram at the handle @lamilpataqueria.
