A development that relocated an 18th-century house near the town’s train station is officially underway as Vango Development has begun construction on a four-story mixed-use project in Westfield’s Downtown.

The Vantage will start to rise in the coming months at 112 Ferris Place and include 60 rental residences, including nine affordable housing units, plus an underground parking garage and a ground-floor retail space. The start of construction was marked with a groundbreaking event attended by Westfield Mayor Shelley Brindle, members of the Town Council, former municipal officials, and other stakeholders.

“Breaking ground on The Vantage is an important moment for both Vango Development and the Town of Westfield,” said Van Golemis, CEO of Vango Development. “This project reflects years of planning and the collective efforts of both the current administration and the leadership that came before it, whose guidance helped shape a thoughtful redevelopment plan for Prospect and Ferris.”

A centerpiece of the project is the careful relocation and adaptive reuse of the Mills-Ferris-Pearsall House, an 18th-century home that used to occupy the land and is designed as a historic landmark by Westfield. The structure will be restored and transformed into a community-facing educational and cultural resource as part of the project.

“I’m thrilled to see The Vantage get underway, which represents the smart development ideals that have guided our planning process,” said Westfield Mayor Shelley Brindle. “I’m very grateful to James Ward for his vision, commitment to the preservation of the historic Mills-Ferris-Pearsall House, and the substantial amount of time and investment he made to bring this project to approval, and of course to Vango Development for their seasoned experience as they see it through for the benefit of the community.”

Designed by CPA Architecture and MHS Architecture, The Vantage will feature a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom floor plans, including three live-work units. A single ground-floor retail space at the corner of Prospect Street and Ferris Place will contribute to neighborhood convenience at a property just a short walk from the town’s train station.

Homes will feature high ceilings, luxury plank flooring, quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances, and spa-inspired bathrooms with Kohler fixtures. A landscaped amenity courtyard at the future complex will include outdoor lounging areas, an outdoor kitchen and dining space, while a clubhouse will offer fitness facilities.

Vango Development hopes to welcome the first residents of The Vantage during the early months of 2027.
