Torico Ice Cream is expanding westward with a new outpost in Jersey City that will allow them to significantly increase their production.

The shop, which has been holding it down at 20 Erie Street for over 50 years, officially confirmed their expansion plans at 1041 Garfield Avenue. Jersey Digs has been following the possible new Torico shop for quite some time, first reporting on the plans over three years ago.

Situated between Berry Lane Park and The Junction, the new digs will span 3,675 square feet of industrial space and 310 square feet of retail. The increase in space will provide Torico Ice Cream greater production capabilities while also giving them an opportunity to create a walk-up retail shop for residents in the neighborhood.

For those uninitiated, Torico features unique year-round flavors like Ube and Black Sesame along with the classics that are a staple of the warmer months. Spring and summer are when Torico’s flavor menu comes to life with Puerto Rican inspired ice creams that include soursop, jackfruit, papaya, and avocado varieties.

The shop easily made our list of the Top Ice Cream Shops in New Jersey and Downtown residents need not fret, as Torico will still be operating inside their Erie Street space despite the expansion.

While an official opening date has not yet been announced, Torico Ice Cream hopes to be up and running along Garfield Avenue later this summer.
