A pier in Hoboken that stretches into the Hudson River and was once used for industrial purposes might soon be redeveloped.

Sailing for Students, Inc. is scheduled to go before the Hoboken Planning Board this week in order to propose a sailing school at Pier 12.

Pier 12 is located across from the corner of Sinatra Drive North and Walter Barry Independence Court, near The North Independence at The Shipyard apartments.

The Washington Street-based company’s proposal involves constructing classrooms, administrative offices, a lounge, and an outdoor dining area, according to their application and a public notice.

The pier, which is closed to the public, was once used by Maxwell House Coffee, according to the Hoboken Historical Museum. Train tracks from the pier’s previous use are still visible.

A public hearing regarding the new proposal is expected to take place during the Hoboken Planning Board’s virtual meeting on Tuesday, October 5, at 7:00 p.m.

Note to readers: The dates that applications are scheduled to be heard by the Hoboken Planning Board and other commissions are subject to change.
