The owner of a property located in the heart of Jersey City’s India Square business district is looking to tear down the building that currently stands at the site in order to construct a development.

An upcoming hearing could determine whether 72 Holly Road, LLC’s plans for 785 Newark Avenue in Ward C will be allowed to proceed. The Jersey City Planning Board is scheduled to hear the proposal for a four-story building during its next meeting over Zoom on Tuesday, November 10 at 5:30 p.m.

The company’s application states that the proposed development in the Journal Square 2060 Redevelopment Plan Area would include nine apartments atop a ground floor restaurant. Five of the units in the 44-foot-tall building would contain one bedroom while the remainder of the apartments would be studios.

The existing two-story building on the premises has contained various restaurants over the years, including Big Bite, China Chowk, Fido’s Cafe, Bombay to Goa, and Grab N Go. The application did not mention which restaurant would occupy the proposed development.

Satinder Saggar is listed in an affidavit of ownership released by the City of Jersey City as the sole member of 72 Holly Road, LLC.

Note to readers: The dates that applications are scheduled to be heard by the Jersey City Planning Board and other commissions are subject to change.
