The ownership behind one of the best restaurants in Hoboken has launched a new seafood-forward concept called Little Bar that aims to remind diners of a European-style neighborhood spot.

The team behind Halifax, an eatery that focuses on Northeastern coastal cuisine, opened their new business over the weekend at 1401 Hudson Street. Jersey Digs reported on the endeavor back in September, which truly embraces its name inside their 500 square feet space.

Little Bar crams a lot into their restaurant while still remaining elegant and cozy, as they feature both barstool and table seating in an almost speakeasy-type setting. The restaurant sports a list of creatively named cocktails including a That’s a Damson Good Negroni, a She’s-So Lim-n Ly-Chee concoction that blends Ketel One vodka, lychee chung, and shiso, and the local tribute Heaven, Hell, Hoboken that mixes Michter’s Small Batch Rye Whiskey, absinthe, and cacao.

The food menu at Little Bar includes “starters” like black bean hummus, whipped ricotta with truffle honey, or eggplant caponata. The bigger plates focus on preserved bites, with highlights including serrano ham, salami and duck rillettes, and several caviar options that are served with crème fraiche.

House made maple salmon, white tuna, anchovies, sardines, and mussels in escabeche are all on the agenda at Little Bar, as are desserts like a chocolat pot du creme with ganache or a cookie crumble and vanilla panna cotta with plum jam.

The 24-seat Little Bar is a collaboration between partners Michael Barry, Weng Lee and Halifax Chef Seadon Shouse, whose cookbook From the Hill by the Sea was released earlier this year. The restaurant recently launched a website and reservations via SpotOn Reserve are strongly suggested.

Little Bar’s space can also be reserved for private events, especially during daytime hours on the weekends. The business is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, but their regular hours run from 5 p.m. until 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday, staying open until 1:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.

The restaurant can be followed on Instagram at the handle @littlebar_hoboken.
