A unique pizza option from a global brand is setting up shop in Jersey City’s fastest-growing neighborhood as the India-based La Pino’z Pizza is building out their latest store.

Construction work has officially begun at 741 Newark Avenue at the ground floor of the property, which was previously home to Monteleone Bakery. That business started serving the community in the 1940s before eventually shuttering in 2023.

La Pino’z Pizza dubs themselves as India’s fastest growing pizza company. The endeavor was launched in 2011 by entrepreneur Sanam Kapoor, who has since grown the restaurant’s footprint to 700 locations worldwide.

The brand went international in 2022, branching out from India in a big way. They currently operate stores in the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia, with the La Pino’z Pizza coming to Jersey City appearing to be their first United States outpost.

Perhaps not surprisingly considering their roots, La Pino’z serves a few Indian-inspired pies like a paneer tikka butter masala pizza. Their “Burn To Hell” pie is known for its fiery heat, while the restaurant also sports a ton of veggie-forward pies like a sweet corn delight pizza.

Diners at La Pino’z can look forward to large single slices plus some pasta dishes like vegetarian lasagna with mushrooms and olives. The restaurant also a few Mexican-fusion dishes and has begun offering Korean chicken wings as some of their locations.

La Pino’z has not announced any potential opening timeline for their Jersey City store, which has flown a big under the radar. Those interested in learning more about the brand can follow them on Instagram at the handle @lapinozpizzaindia.
