Jersey City’s Ward C is now bursting at the seams with new residential development. Projects like 808 Pavonia, Journal Squared, One Journal Square, and 2973 Kennedy are expected to bring thousands of new residents to this corner of the city, specifically in the blocks surrounding the Journal Square Transportation Center. Now, some developers are seeking to bring more hotels to the neighborhood, which currently only contains the Ramada Jersey City on Tonnelle Avenue and the Haiban Inn Hotel on Newark Avenue.
One such proposal was recently made by Sanjeev Chopra and Haresh Bhavnani, who applied to the City for Preliminary and Final Major Site Plan Approval to open a small hotel. The proposal calls for the hotel to be built at 78 Cottage Street, near the corner of John F. Kennedy Boulevard. According to public records, the plans state that the building would be five stories tall, and could contain 18 studio units.
Currently, the site, located at the beginning of a residential neighborhood across from a Pepboys location, contains a house owned by the developers.
The proposal was heard by the Jersey City Planning Board on March 28th and April 11th.
