A fast-casual restaurant with over 300 locations across 20 countries will be setting up shop inside of an emerging Downtown building in Brick City.

Freshii, a Canadian franchise that serves burritos, wraps, soups, salads, and frozen yogurt, has signed a lease at Ironside Newark. The former Central Graphic Arts Building dates back to 1907 and was used over the years by corporations like Iron Mountain and the Central Paper Company before its transformation into offices and retail space by Edison Properties.

The restaurant will be joining Halal Guys, SportsMed Physical Therapy, and Oren’s Daily Roast as retail tenants in the sprawling complex, opening inside a 1,829 square foot storefront along Edison Place.

“Freshii is the ideal tenant to join our retail space at Ironside Newark, complementing our growing array of food and beverage and specialty service tenants,” said Lenny Lazzarino, senior vice president of leasing with Edison Properties in a prepared statement. “As Newark continues to reopen and kick-start its economy, Freshii will be a welcomed addition to downtown Newark, checking the box on another healthy alternative food option.

The Newark outpost will be Freshii’s fourth New Jersey location, as they currently operate in Morris Plains, Middletown, and New Brunswick. The chain was founded in 2005 in Toronto and rolls out a new item on their menu every 90 days that incorporates the latest health and food trends.

Freshii features an early hours service that includes items like a breakfast ranchero burrito with scrambled egg, avocado, aged cheddar, black beans, cilantro, and salsa fresca. Their overall menu includes a diverse set of culinary styles and all dishes feature detailed nutrition information and allergens data.

Highlights from the lunch menu include a kale caesar wrap and an oaxaca bowl featuring brown rice, kale, avocado, beet slaw, black beans, corn, salsa fresca, and crispy wontons. Their khao san burrito mixes brown rice, spinach, almonds, edamame, mushrooms, carrots, and cabbage with spicy peanut lemongrass sauce. Snacks like energii bites, consisting of peanut butter, honey, oats, coconut, and chocolate chips, round out the menu.

With their current locations open for takeout and delivery service amid COVID-19, Freshii is looking to open their Newark outpost in spring 2021.
