Residents of uptown Hoboken will soon have another full-service supermarket option as a long-vacant spot in a modern building is slated to house a Dumbo Market.

Construction permits have been posted at 1425 Washington Street and work has already begun building out the 14,000-square-foot business. Plans for Dumbo Market were confirmed via the Hoboken by Asana real estate portfolio, which notes the market’s location along the center of the property.

Dumbo Market opened their first location a 66 Front Street in the, you guessed it, Dumbo neighborhood of Brooklyn. The market filled a surprising void that existed in the neighborhood at the time and expanded to Boerum Hill in April earlier this year.

The Hoboken market will be Dumbo Market’s first New Jersey location, with the brand being backed by the Associated Supermarkets Group.

Dumbo Market in Hoboken will offer an extensive selection of organic and specialty items, and their Brooklyn locations offer fresh fish, meat, and hot food departments. The business partners with a service called Rosie for online orders, which can be made available for both curbside pickup and delivery.

Dumbo Market has not responded to an inquiry we placed about a possible opening date, but their imminent arrival should be welcome news for the neighborhood. The space set to house the market has been vacant for half a decade since the completion of 1425 Washington Street.

Dumbo Market will be joining the Montessori School, Club Pilates, Hand & Stone Spa, The Little Play Co., and ProHealth Care at the property, which will be getting a Bond Vet outpost to complete the lease out of the property’s retail.
