Jersey City’s northernmost neighborhood just gained a friendly new brunch spot featuring an eclectic menu, and the BYOB-friendly restaurant is also open for dinner seven days a week.
The simply named Central Bistro Restaurant officially started serving diners earlier this week at 403 Central Avenue. Setting up shop in the former Cinco De Mayo Deli space, the newly renovated eatery boasts an interior with a simple, clean design. Partial wood paneling, new floors, large bright windows, and a mounted deer head fill out the décor.
Central Bistro boasts the somewhat unique distinction of serving brunch Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays with plans to expand to seven days a week. Menu items include a classic eggs benedict, Nutella French toast, and Florentino eggs. Their brunch choices include a few Latin-inspired dishes like a brunch burrito, chilaquiles, and huevos vaqueros.
The daytime menu at Central Bistro additionally includes less brunchy sandwiches like a meatball parm, an Oaxaca torta, and burger choices comprised of beef, lamb, and veggie varieties. Several salads are featured and appetizer options really run the gamut, including everything from chicken wings, crab cakes, and sautéed broccoli rabe to potato and goat cheese pierogies.
Their dinner menu includes items that are generally more inspired by an Italian palate. Pasta like gnocchi, carbonara, and di Pomodoro dot the landscape, while entrees include chicken, veal, or shrimp versions of Francaise, Marsala, or parmigiana. A few steak and pork options, a small children’s menu, and desserts that include an icebox cake round out the menu.
Central Bistro offers sit-down seating and welcomes to-go pickup orders either in-person or by phone at 201-798-6798. They currently don’t have a delivery system in place yet, but they are looking to implement that in the future. The restaurant opens early and closes late, with hours running on Saturday through Monday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m and Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
