The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has bad news for commuters and travelers who rely on Hoboken PATH service. The Hoboken PATH station will be completely closed 24/7 from 11:59pm on Jan. 30, 2025, until 5am on Feb. 25, 2025. The closure will allow for major station and track repairs and improvements to the 116-year-old station.
While the Port Authority has collaborated with regional transit partners on a contingency plan to give riders options, users can expect crowded conditions and long lines. Anyone who normally travels around the Hoboken station should add in extra travel time. The Port Authority is advising customers to consider all available alternative work options. PATH will provide shuttle buses, added train service, and more ferry service. All information regarding the closure, schedules, service options, fares and frequencies can be found at the PATH Forward website. All additional travel options will be ADA-accessible.
The contingency plan for PATH travelers includes:
Free PATH shuttle bus service connecting Hoboken riders to PATH trains at Newport and Exchange Place stations. PATH will add trains to serve additional passengers both Newport and Exchange Place stations on both the World Trade Center and 33rd Street lines. Trains will arrive at Newport every 2-4 minutes and every 5 minutes or less at Exchange Place during rush hour.
Cross-honored ferry service with added peak service departures every 10 minutes from both Hoboken ferry terminals (PATH/NJ TRANSIT station terminal and 14th Street) servicing Manhattan’s Brookfield Place/Battery Park City and Midtown/West 39th. They will add more NY Waterway crosstown bus service from Midtown/West 39th. Both Hoboken ferry terminals will extend hours until 10pm weekdays and 12am Saturday and Sunday. An additional weekend route will provide service to Midtown/West 39th from both Hoboken terminals.
The NJ TRANSIT 126 Bus Service will add buses to the 126 route from Hoboken station to the Port Authority Midtown Bus Terminal.
NJ TRANSIT will also provide additional Hudson-Bergen Light Rail service weekdays between 6-10am and 3-7pm to transport customers to and from continuing PATH service at Newport and Exchange Place.
The Port Authority is offering several informational sessions, both in-person and virtual, in advance of the closure. In-person public information sessions will be held on: Tuesday, Nov. 12, 5:30pm Hoboken Terminal, Waiting Room, 1 Hudson Place, Hoboken, NJ 07030 and Wednesday, Nov. 13, 5:30pm 2 Montgomery Street, Jersey City, NJ 07302.
