One of India Square’s more prominent restaurants is plotting a new location on Hoboken’s main street as Pariwaar Delights is looking to expand to the Mile Square City.
The eatery has applied to open on the ground floor at 616 Washington Street, which had hosted the recently closed Mikie Squared for many years. Pariwaar Delights, run by owner Mohammed Ghulam, has operated at 827 Newark Avenue in the heart of India Square since 2019.
Dubbing themselves “the king of biryanis,” Pariwaar Delights serves authentic Hyderabadi cuisine. The style is an amalgamation of South Asian, Mughalai, Turkic, and Arabic flavors, and the restaurant’s sprawling menu sports tandoor dishes, chicken, goat, and seafood plates along with some Indo-Chinese options.
Classics like paneer tikka masala are accounted for along with highlights like goat korma, which is cooked with potatoes and spices with a creamy nutty curry. There are entire sections of the menu devoted to vegetarian options plus some desserts like Qubani Ka Meetha, a pudding-like treat with dried apricots.
Drinks at the restaurant include a mango lassi or an Irani Chai, which blends strong black tea, milk, and aromatic spices. The 616 Washington Street address has a liquor license at the property, but a request to transfer it to Pariwaar Delights has not yet emerged.
An email Jersey Digs placed to the ownership of Pariwaar Delights seeking further information on the Hoboken plans has not yet been answered. The city’s Historic Preservation Committee is slated to hear a signage application for the restaurant during the February 5 meeting.
