One of the largest companies in the world will be bringing thousands of jobs to several Garden State facilities that will open amid uncertainty about the future of retail being driven by COVID-19.
Amazon Logistics recently announced that they have signed lease agreements with the intention of launching 14 new delivery stations in New Jersey this year. Their latest facility, at 555 Macarthur Boulevard in the Bergen county township of Mahwah, opened in early May and joined the more than 150 delivery stations that the company runs across the United States.
Amazon’s delivery stations power the last mile of their order fulfillment process, as packages are transported there to be sorted before getting loaded into vehicles for delivery. Besides the Mahwah outpost, spots the company will be opening facilities at include Paddock Street in Avenel, International Drive in Budd Lake, Moonachie Avenue and Washington Avenue in Carlstadt, Center Square Road in Logan Township, and Forest Parkway in West Deptford.
The state’s two biggest cities will be getting some love from Amazon, as new delivery stations will be opening along Thomas McGovern Drive in Jersey City and on Newark’s Delancy Street. Court South in Edison will be getting a delivery station, while the other spots the company has targeted are known for their warehousing.
Linden’s Lower Road, North Street in Teterboro, and two stations in Kearny along Central Avenue and Logistics Drive round out the planned locations.
“Amazon Logistics has signed various leases in an effort to open 14 delivery stations in New Jersey in 2020,” said Amazon Spokesperson Emily Hawkins. “We are excited to continue to invest in the state of New Jersey with new delivery stations that will provide efficient delivery for customers and create thousands of job opportunities for the talented workforce.”
The stations will create thousands of full and part-time jobs that pay a minimum of $15 per hour and offer entrepreneurs the opportunity to build their own business delivering Amazon packages. Those interested in learning more can visit the company’s jobs page.
Amazon’s announcement comes just a few weeks after we reported on a proposed distribution facility that the company is looking to open at 670 Belleville Turnpike in Kearny. New Jersey was one of a plethora of places that tried to entice the company into setting up their second headquarters in the state, with both Newark and Jersey City submitting unsuccessful applications attempting to woo the e-commerce giant to their cities.
