A prime restaurant space along Palisade Avenue could soon be springing back to life after being dormant for almost two years, as the owners of a Downtown bar and gastropub plan to open their new eatery in The Heights.
During their October 20 meeting, Jersey City’s Alcoholic Beverage Control approved the transfer of a “pocket,” or dormant, liquor license to 594 Palisade Avenue. That address was, of course, home to Fox & Crow, who announced their closure in 2025 after a decade-long run.
The building has been up for sale since then, and it is currently listed as “under contract” on LoopNet. While the buyer is currently unknown, the property’s liquor license was transferred to an entity called Paper Mache Ballerina LLC.
Listed as 100% owner of that company is Mary Snyder, who is one half of Ed & Mary’s. They took over the former 9th and Coles bar in Downtown back in 2019 and have run it ever since, apparently now setting their sights on Jersey City’s northernmost neighborhood.
Jersey Digs has reached out to the ownership behind Ed & Mary’s about Paper Mache Ballerina but hasn’t heard back yet.
Paper Mache Ballerina, if that is what the restaurant ends up being called, doesn’t appear to have a social media presence yet. Construction hasn’t started at the property, but making the liquor license transfer official certainly indicates that The Heights could be getting a new restaurant.
