A vegetable-forward restaurant with a focus on intimate tasting menus recently launched in Montclair as long-time residents have started welcoming diners to Sam’s Table.
Situated at 377 Bloomfield Avenue, the 26-seat eatery officially opened last month. The restaurant is helmed by Sam Stymest, who had notable culinary stops at New York City’s famed Craft Bar and Google along with well-known Montclair establishments such as Upstairs, Fascino, and Corso 98.
Sam’s Table is decidedly a family affair as his mother, Deborah, serves as the restaurant’s general manager. Sam’s father, Brian, is a renowned painter whose work adorns the restaurant’s walls.

The Stymest family has lived in Montclair for over 30 years and were inspired with the concept for Sam’s Table during 2020. The reality of COVID-era restaurant shutdowns forced Sam to pivot to pop-up dinners with small groups, a hospitality ethos he aims to take from his family’s backyard to the new business.

The menu at Sam’s Table changes monthly and is subject to update based on the freshest local ingredients that are in season. The five-course tasting menu on Friday and Saturday nights runs $92/person, while an à la carte menu on Thursdays and Sundays gives guests a chance to pick and choose the restaurant’s dishes.
Sam’s Table is a BYOB restaurant and is now accepting reservations through their website. The business can be followed on Instagram at the handle @SamsTableNJ.
