A currently inactive liquor license that was previously used by an exclusive Downtown Newark lunch and event venue might soon be utilized at a space around the corner.

The plenary retail consumption license that had been issued to The Newark Club could be transferred to Fleet Hospitality, according to a public notice. The notice currently associates the license with The Praedium Group in Manhattan and lists Marc Berson and Jeffrey Hersh as the members of Fleet Hospitality.

Berson, who is better known as the chairman of Fidelco Realty Group, told Jersey Digs that the license is intended to be used by another operator at the old Noodle Shop space at 218 Market Street. The address in question is located within the RockPlaza Lofts complex on the south side of Market Street between Broad and Mulberry streets.

A new restaurant is in the works for the space, according to Berson. The name of the potential upcoming occupant has not yet been revealed, but could be announced in the near future should a deal be finalized.

The Newark Club, which was branded as the Metropolitan Room in its final years, shut down in 2017 after more than two decades in business on the top floor of One Newark Center. Noodle Shop closed its doors last year.
