The volume of major film shoots setting up in Jersey City has grown so significantly that one of the city’s largest property owners apparently almost can’t keep up with demand.
Over the past few years, Hollywood has taken New Jersey by storm thanks in part to 2018’s Garden State Film and Digital Media Jobs Act. The legislation provides a film production tax credit of up to 35 percent and has kickstarted filming throughout New Jersey.

Jersey City has clearly become the epicenter of the phenomenon, with high-profile projects like Joker, It Ends With Us, A Complete Unknown, The Walking Dead, and more making extended stays along the west side of the Hudson River.
Recent big names to stop by Jersey City for film shoots include Sydney Sweeney for her latest project and Jeremy Allen White for the upcoming Bruce Springsteen biopic. Newport in particular has become very popular, according to an article in BINJE.
Lefrak owns much of the land in Newport and according to external affairs lead Charles Burton, the numerous urban and office settings that can easily be transformed into Anytown, USA make the area ripe for film crews.
“We have productions coming to us every week, ranging from a series that is on a streaming service to Hollywood movies to commercials,” Burton told the outlet. “They are interested in our outdoor spaces along the waterfront with the Manhattan skyline to street scenes with our own buildings in the background to spots inside our residential and commercial office buildings, like the Newport Center Mall.

The company was one of the sponsors at the first-ever New Jersey Film Expo, which was held in May earlier this year. Burton credits not only the state legislation but Jersey City’s government for being a great partner in the filming process.
