Despite having ‘Jersey’ in its name, there were only a few locations of Jersey Mike’s Subs in Northern New Jersey over the last couple of decades. The chain, which competes with other sandwich shops like Subway, Blimpie, and Jimmy John’s, had a presence across the country, but not a significant one in its home state. However, more outposts of the Monmouth County-based franchise have opened in the Garden State in the last few years as it has become one of America’s fastest growing restaurant chains. In fact, Hudson County’s first Jersey Mike’s opened in Bayonne in November, and now, a second location is almost ready for opening day.
According to the company’s website, a Jersey Mike’s is set to open on Wednesday, January 17th in the town of Kearny. The 1,400 square foot location will be situated within the Kearny Plaza Shopping Center at 190 Passaic Avenue and will be open daily. It will be the fourth sub shop to open in the community.
This side of Kearny has seen an increasing retail presence recently, with new locations of BJ’s Wholesale Club, Chipotle, and Five Below in the area and Ulta Beauty and Starbucks Coffee reportedly coming soon. Previously, several industrial buildings stood in this area.
