One of the most prominent new developments in the Ironbound neighborhood of Newark will be getting a new boutique fitness studio in the coming months as Alpha Fit Club will be coming soon to the Brick City.
J&L Companies recently announced the brand, which offers circuit-style group training, has signed a long-term lease on the ground floor of their 55 Union complex. The space is scheduled to be open to the public in January next year.
Alpha Fit Club blends high-intensity interval training (HIIT) with total body strength training, creating a supportive and energetic group fitness experience. The Newark location of the studio will span a total of 3,500 square feet.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Alpha Fit Club to 55 Union,” said Gabriel Lopez, Principal of J&L Companies. “This partnership is a win for our residents, the Ironbound and the City of Newark. Health, sustainability, and wellness are at the heart of 55 Union, and Alpha Fit Club will bring new energy and opportunities for fitness to the doorsteps of our community.”

55 Union has already been recognized for its health-focused design and community impact. The property is Fitwel certified, reflecting its commitment to wellness for residents and visitors, and was recognized with the 2024 Urban Land Institute’s Excellence
“We’re building something special in Newark,” said Lizzette Pagan and Elizabeth Sutton, Alpha Fit Franchisee Partners. “This isn’t just about fitness — it’s about bringing people together to support each other, push limits, and grow stronger as a unit. The energy in our studio is contagious, and we can’t wait to open our doors to this incredible community.”
J&L says that the lease highlights the ongoing momentum in Newark’s Ironbound district, a neighborhood known for its culture, energy, and strong sense of community. Alpha Fit Club is notably a local business, being founded by local investors from the Garden State back in 2019.
