The growing Journal Square area of Jersey City will soon be home to an outpost of Don Chicken, a fast casual restaurant that has significantly expanded throughout the United States over the last four years.
Set to take over the former Summit News space at 514 Summit Avenue, the Seoul-based restaurant bills themselves as the “boss” of Korean fried chicken. The company opened their first U.S. outpost in San Diego back in 2022 and has since expanded to 15 locations in America in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and Texas.
Their New Jersey presence has been particularly big, with existing restaurants in Fort Lee, Palisades Park, Ridgewood, River Edge, and Closter. The eatery is known for their crispy double-fried chicken and signature sauces, which include varieties like soy garlic, sweet and spicy, hot spicy, and green onion.
Other notable items on the menu at Don Chicken include their Ppurings Chicken, which is sprinkled with chili powdered cheese. Sides at the restaurant include a ddokbokki, or a rice cake in Korean spicy sauce, tteokbokki, fries, and cheese sticks.
The Jersey City location of Don Chicken has not announced an opening date just yet, but they are currently hiring for kitchen and front counter positions, according to a sign posted on the Summit Avenue storefront.
