Could another popular ice cream shop be coming to Hoboken? The rumors are true. Yes, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream is opening in Hoboken.
We don’t know when, but we know where. According to Van Leeuwen’s website, their second Hudson Country location will open at 537 Washington Street, a site most recently occupied by Glosslab until late 2023. The new location faces some tough competition from the city’s many ice cream shops and ubiquitous ice cream trucks, but so far, Van Leeuwen has proven to be an unstoppable force in the ice cream world.
What started as a humble yellow food truck cruising the streets of New York City in 2008 has skyrocketed to a frozen treat sensation. Founded by brothers Pete and Ben Van Leeuwen and their partner Laura O’Neill, the company focuses on simple but unique flavors with high-quality ingredients. In 2023, they went viral with Hidden Valley Ranch ice cream. Today, they serve scoops in dozens of shops across ten states.
Van Leeuwen fans claim the company’s creative combinations of milk, cream, eggs, and sugar are unbeatable. The 21 varieties currently on their website offer an array of flavors ranging from Coffee Affogato to Pumpkin Cheesecake to Buttermilk Berry Cornbread and much more. Fans of simpler chocolates and vanillas have plenty of options as well. Vegans have over a half dozen options, including Vegan Chocolate Cookie Dough Honeycomb and Vegan Peanut Butter Brownie Honeycomb.
Currently, Van Leeuwen has two more locations in New Jersey. You can head out to the American Dream Mall in East Rutherford or the newly-opened Jersey City branch at 347 Grove Street. We’ll keep you posted as more details become available, but if you can’t wait, you can grab Van Leeuwen at many local grocery stores or order directly from their website.
