If you hit the Wildwoods Boardwalk at the Jersey Shore this summer, you’ll be walking the best boards in the nation, according to a USA Today award.
The Wildwoods captured the No. 1 spot for best boardwalks for the second consecutive year, with the Ocean City, Atlantic City, and the Point Pleasant Beach boardwalks also among New Jersey boardwalks making the Top 10 list, according to the Readers’ Choice Awards.
“What makes this recognition especially meaningful is that it comes from the visitors, residents, and devoted fans who hold the Wildwoods close to their hearts,” Louis M. Belasco, executive director of the Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority (GWTIDA), said in a statement.
The Wildwoods Boardwalk “stretches for 38 blocks and is packed with shops, restaurants, bars, water parks, and an amusement pier featuring over 100 attractions,” USA Today noted in its list.
Today’s 2.5-mile boardwalk got its start in the 1890s as 150 yards of boards intended to keep sand out of Wildwood hotel lobbies.
Several other publications and travel organizations have also cited the Wildwoods Boardwalk as a standout over the years.
