A new plan to transform a former Jersey City fire station on Palisade Avenue into residences sounds like it will soon move forward.

One of Downtown Jersey City’s most popular cocktail joints will soon be expanding to a spot on the cliffside, as the owners of The Archer will soon be bringing their concoctions to the former Trolley Car Bar space.

Construction is underway on another new residential development in Jersey City’s rapidly growing Ward C. Developers are bringing eight units to 83 Waverly Street located in The Heights.

A loft-style apartment development is planned for The Heights neighborhood of Jersey City. The project, which occupies a former Studebaker showroom, will be named The Studebaker Lofts.

Several new businesses have opened recently along the Central Avenue corridor in The Heights neighborhood of Jersey City, and more are coming. Recently, a ribbon cutting was held to celebrate the opening of El Gordo Restaurant at 291 Central Ave.

Jersey City’s Riverview-Fisk Park is finally getting a new gazebo. It’s been four years since Hurricane Sandy’s winds blew the roof off the historic structure. Now, the Riverview Neighborhood Association has unveiled plans for a replacement for the destroyed gazebo.

Two new projects are in the works for Central Avenue in the Heights. The approved plans call for renovating and expanding the existing buildings, adding more residential units as well as improved commercial space.

It’s been a long and winding road attempting to redevelop a warehouse-turned gym just off Riverview Park, but a new company is finally moving forward with a project that will add housing, retail and some nice historic revitalization that will fit right into the burgeoning neighborhood.

The Heights neighborhood of Jersey City was a German enclave from the middle of the 19th century until World War I. Prosperous citizens, often of German descent, built the biggest and best houses on Summit Avenue and Sherman Place.
