A new report out by internet speed-test company Ookla ranks New Jersey as the state with the fastest internet speed.

With an average download speed of 121 megabits per second, New Jersey takes the top spot. Maine comes in last with download speeds of only 50 Mbps. The report was compiled based on consumer-initiated tests on 24 million unique devices totaling 115 million individual tests.

Not only is New Jersey the fastest state overall but Jersey City ranks #11 out of over 100 cities with the fastest internet speed – outranking New York by nine spots and nearly double the download speed.

The fastest service provider in the state is Verizon, with average download speeds of 130 megabits per second.

Overall, internet speeds in the U.S. are increasing rapidly, in the last year, average download speeds are up 35.8 percent. Great news considering how reliant we’ve become on technology.
