An independently owned and operated three-story, 180-bed skilled nursing home will be constructed on the former Western Union headquarters site in Montvale, Bergen County.
Ground was broken on July 13 for the Montvale Post Acute and Healthcare Center at 100 Summit Avenue. The facility will include short-term rehabilitation, memory care and long-term residential care.
Marquis Health Consulting Services of Brick, Ocean County, will provide support to the 185,878-square-foot center.
“Skilled nursing care is not what it used to be,” Marquis Division President Michael Smith said in a statement. “This center is poised to become a premier rehabilitation destination in a region where private rooms are scarce and specialized clinical care is in high demand.”
Using census data, the New Jersey Department of Labor & Workforce Development projects steady growth in the 65 and older population in the state.
In 2010, 13% of the state population was 65 and older. By 2034, that share will grow to 20%, according to the state forecast. Between 2029 and 2034, the number of people living in New Jersey who are 65 and older will begin to outnumber children under 15, the projections show.
Andy Aronson, president and CEO of the Health Care Association of New Jersey, noting the shift to older New Jerseyans, said in the center’s announcement that “campuses like Montvale and other high-quality providers will be essential to meeting that growing need.”
