One of the largest bubble tea brands in America is officially expanding into New Jersey’s largest city as Kung Fu Tea is bringing their Taiwanese-influenced concoctions to a major Newark retail stretch.

Three entrepreneurs founded Kung Fu Tea just over 12 years ago in Queens, hoping to bring an authentic bubble tea experience they felt was lacking throughout their Flushing neighborhood at the time. The company has grown exponentially since then, amassing a portfolio of over 350 locations across the United States and Canada.

The brand opened a location in Summit just last month and will now turn their attention to Brick City. Kung Fu Tea is slated to take up the ground floor retail space at 71 Halsey Street and will be bringing a variety of milk teas, punch teas, and other beverages to a block that serves the city’s business district and Rutgers-Newark.

Kung Fu Tea sports several signature drinks including a milk cap, which allows customers to choose a customized tea and add a thick layer of salty “milk” over it. Slushies at the shop blend their teas with ice for a nice summertime treat, while a “milk strike” drink pairs teas with lactose-free milk and tasty Oreo “wow bubbles.”

The brand additionally serves a variety of espresso and coffee alongside rotating seasonal specials like a purple yam latte or a strawberry cream milk cap. Kung Fu Tea also offers gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, and caffeine-free options for those with dietary restrictions.

Kung Fu Tea offers delivery services from most of their locations and while a timeline for the opening of their Newark outpost has not been released, signage has gone up at the property and the company’s website lists the Halsey Street location as “coming soon.”
