Over the last few years, several Hudson County restaurants have opened or have announced plans to open outposts in the county’s neighbor to the west. Essex County currently contains locations of PJ Ryan’s, O’LaLa Empanadas, and The Ainsworth, for example. Now, a local seafood establishment has chosen Essex County as the place for its second restaurant.

Downtown Jersey City’s Just Beclaws has leased a space within the Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Downtown Newark, according to a listing from Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL). The business, which opened its first location three years ago on 1st Street near Newark Avenue, will take over the 5,318 square foot space that had been occupied by a Joe’s Crab Shack restaurant until the location was shuttered in 2016.

The Just Beclaws in Jersey City is only open for late lunch and dinner and is closed on Mondays. Menu items at the business, which specializes in Vietnamese and Cajun-style seafood, include po’ boys, oysters, crab cake, shrimp, and wings.

Despite being finished six years ago and being prominently located around the corner from the Prudential Center arena, most of the first floor spaces within the Courtyard by Marriott have been vacant since the hotel was finished. However, the JLL listing also states that an Armed Forces Career Center recruiting office has leased the hotel’s northernmost retail space.
