Thousands of New Jersey commuters beginning Wednesday can start or end their trips at the doctor’s office.

Hackensack Meridian Health’s Health & Wellness Center at Metropark will officially open on Wednesday, April 29, next to Metropark, New Jersey Transit’s second-busiest train station.

The hours have been extended – from 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on weekdays, according to the center’s website.

“We are the first in the country to bring comprehensive health services to a major mass transit hub, revolutionizing where and how healthcare is delivered to reach more people,” Robert C. Garrett, Hackensack Meridian Health CEO, said in a statement. “We expect it will be a model emulated across the country.”

Services will include advanced imaging, urgent care plus, primary care, surgical specialties, medical specialties, retail pharmacy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, rehabilitation, phlebotomy, and more, according to the healthcare provider.

A ribbon cutting at the facility Wednesday will feature speeches by Garrett, Gov. Mikie Sherrill, NJ Transit President and CEO Kris Kolluri, and Woodbridge Mayor John McCormac. The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m.

Hackensack Meridian Health is also moving its headquarters into the building, which means all corporate employees, spread across several buildings, will be at the same location for the first time since the system was formed by a merger 10 years ago.

The development is the first example of NJ Transit’s broader plan, announced last October, to generate non-fare revenue from its real estate portfolio, according to Hackensack Meridian Health. Residential, retail, and office developments are also planned.
