Mayor Marty Small, Sr. and Assistant Director of Economic Development Bruce Weekes announced at a news conference that Atlantic City will allow food trucks to operate at two designated public locations, O’Donnell Memorial Park and Gardner’s Basin, starting in November. Up to eight registered and approved trucks will be authorized to serve food at each location.
This summer, the Atlantic City’s City Council voted unanimously to approve the ordinance. In the subsequent weeks, the city’s Office of Economic Development and Zoning Office within the Department of Planning & Development worked together with the Public Works Department to create signage and stripe designated spaces at both locations. The team also worked with the Licensing & Inspection Department to develop the applications.

“Atlantic City is always open for business—and this is just one more way we’re making that known,” noted Mayor Small. “Not only does this create new opportunities for small businesses, something the Small Administration is aggressive on, but this generates tax revenue and gives residents and visitors more affordable dining options. We’re also boosting tourism by bringing additional foot traffic to these two popular public areas.”
Food trucks will operate along Captain John O’Donnell Parkway at O’Donnell Memorial Park. Gardner’s Basin trucks will be located along the roadway between the Atlantic City Aquarium and the Seawall parking lot. Signs are already in place. Both areas will be open daily from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
“Residents have spoken for years about wanting food trucks, and the Small Administration listened,” added Assistant Director of Economic Development Bruce Weekes. “We want this to serve as a stepping stone for food operators to choose Atlantic City as their headquarters for permanent locations and open storefronts. This gives these entrepreneurs a chance to build their brand recognition and customer base.”
