One of Manhattan’s most acclaimed bars has announced its imminent arrival in Jersey City, but where exactly it will set up shop is clouded in mystery.

The ownership behind The Dead Rabbit will open a new concept on the west side of the Hudson River called San Patricios, which looks to continue their winning streak. For those uninitiated, The Dead Rabbit first opened in Manhattan’s Financial District in 2013 and has since received extensive accolades, including top honors from World’s 50 Best Bars and inclusion on the 2024 North America’s 50 Best Bars list.

Hoping to open this fall in Jersey City, San Patricios will be led by Dead Rabbit alums, including Director of Operations Laura Torres, Beverage Director Aidan Bowie, and Director of Strategy Gráinne O’Neill. The pub and cantina will be inspired by the unlikely but powerful connection forged between Ireland and Mexico during the Mexican-American War in the mid-1800s.

“At The Dead Rabbit Group, we believe that Irish hospitality is for everyone,” says Managing Partner Jack McGarry. “San Patricios is our chance to show that spirit through a different lens, one that honors the shared struggles and celebrations of the Irish and Mexican people.”

The pub will take its name from the San Patricio Battalion, a group of mostly Irish soldiers who defected and fought alongside Mexico during the conflict. Guests can expect a menu that merges comforting modern Irish pub cocktails and fare with vibrant cantina drinks and classics for brunch through dinner.

Signatures to look out for when San Patricios opens include the culinary team’s take on Mexican and Irish-inspired street food alongside Irish Coffees, Carajillos, and both Guinness and Pacifico being poured side-by-side. The interior design aims to converge the cultures with worn woods, leather banquettes, Talavera tiles, and walls alive with narrative art and murals.

It’s an open question exactly where San Patricios is setting up shop; their website does not list an address, and their media announcement also omitted a location. A representative with Foxglove Communications confirmed to Jersey Digs that while the restaurant team isn’t quite ready to share an address, it will be rolled out in the coming weeks.

To keep tabs on when and where San Patricios will be launching, the restaurant can be followed on Instagram at the handle @sanpatriciosnj.
