Concierge Confidential: Special Deliveries

Concierge Confidential is our new column where we talk with concierges to get the low down on what goes on in luxury buildings around the city. These folks work the front lines and often know the intimate details of their residents.

Let’s use a code name, what would you like to be called?

Ok, Wild Card, How long have you been in the concierge business?

Six years total. I’ve worked in both hotel and residential positions. The first four years were at a high end hotel in NYC. Then I moved over to Jersey City where I’ve worked in a residential building for the last two years.

Tell us some of your more memorable stories:

Just recently, a 1 year old child wandered out of his crib at 3am. He then proceeded to leave the apartment, pressed the elevator button and take a ride. I’d guess he rode the elevator up and down for a good 10 minutes. Once the elevator made it to the ground floor, he strolled out into the lobby. I picked the kid up, called the parents and told them there was a delivery for them at the front desk.

One of the female residents called and requested I bring up her package that had been delivered. An odd request, but I get odd requests all the time. So I headed up to her apartment, package in hand. I knocked on the door, she says, “It’s open”. I walk in and see the resident. She says, “thanks for the delivery, but I want to show you something.” Then raises her top and flashes me!

I was working in a hotel and a well known musician who was staying with us for a week received a package delivery. One of our staff members delivered the package to the guest. A few minutes later, the guest calls down asking that a concierge come up. When I get there, he opens the door and asks if I could get him 10 bottles of Febreze. Sure, why not? Anything for the guests. When I return with the Febreze, the guest opens the door and invites me in. First I notice the unmistakeable skunk smell of marijuana. Then I look up and see an entire table top full of marijuana. Turns out the package contained 3 pounds of weed. Needless to say, no report was made!
