Young football players in Atlantic City will play their first game this Sunday on new gray artificial turf as part of a $1.33 million renovation of Dolphins Field, which includes upgraded lighting and new goalposts.
City leaders, team members, and others on Monday cut the ribbon on the project, funded by the New Jersey Green Acres Program.
A new clubhouse at the North Ohio and Kuehnle Avenue sports complex next to Route 30 will be built next year.

New fencing, storage sheds, landscaping enhancements, and ADA accessibility improvements were also added to the complex.
“Dolphins Field has been a longtime home of our young athletes, and this renovation is about honoring that history while giving our present youth a facility they can be proud of,” Mayor Marty Small Sr. said in a statement.
The previous green artificial playing surface was installed in 2010 and was due for replacement, according to the city.
Maruti Construction was the site contractor, and Keystone Sports Construction oversaw installation of the new turf. Environmental Resolutions, Inc. was the project’s design engineer under the guidance of the City of Atlantic City Engineering Office.
“Dolphins Field has long served as the home of the Atlantic City Dolphins, a respected community organization that has positively impacted countless young athletes throughout the city,” the city announcement said.
